Tiger Softball wins five in UMKC Fall Classic

Independence, Mo. - The University of Missouri softball team won five straight games this weekend at the UMKC Fall Classic, bringing their fall record to 7-0.

The Tigers won their first game of the weekend against Northwest Missouri State by a score of 4-2. Junior Erin Erickson jacked the first of her two weekend homers in the fifth inning. Pitcher Ingrid Werner allowed 6 hits and 2 walks in 7.0 innings of work.

Mizzou then faced Jacksonville State from Alabama, downing the Gamecocks 3-0. Senior Stephanie Falk pitched 7.0 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk.

The final game on Saturday pitted Missouri against University of Missouri-Kansas City, where the Tigers eeked out a 5-4 victory in eight innings. Werner and Falk split pitching duties, allowing 9 hits and 2 walks. Junior Lindsey Jacoby scored the winning run on a squeeze bunt by Erin Erickson in the eighth inning.

On Sunday the Tigers won their first game against the University of Nebraska at Kearney Lopers by a score of 7-4. Falk allowed 10 hits and 2 walks in 7.0 innings.

Finally, `Zou beat the Missouri Southern Lions 8-0 in 6 innings. Werner pitched a 2-hit shutout through the six inning contest. Erickson dinged her second solo homer of the weekend in the fifth inning.
