The University of Missouri baseball team opened its fall season with the Black and Gold game, which the Black team won 6-4.
MU Black got on the board in the second inning when freshman second baseman Felipe Tetelboin singled scoring freshman Cody Ehlers. The Black squad increased the lead with a four-run third thanks to a two-run double by junior rightfielder Wes Fewell, one of his two hits in the game. Black also got an RBI-double from freshman third baseman Aaron Peterik and a single from senior catcher Jon Williams that scored freshman Matt Gipson. The Black team added a run in the top of the fourth on sophomore outfielder Jayce Tingler's RBI-single.
MU Gold scored in the fourth, on junior Kurt Propst's sacrifice fly that allowed another junior W.T. Hoover to score. Hoover went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the contest. Sophomore Dan Bane">Dan Bane scored in the fifth on a wild pitch by freshman lefty Garrett Bauer. The Gold team finished the night's scoring with two runs in the ninth on a one-run double from Hoover and an RBI-single from junior Ryan Stegall, who went 2-for-4 in the scrimmage.
"Our guys played well tonight considering the cold weather and I am pleased with the effort," said Head Coach Tim Jamieson. "We also had a nice crowd and hopefully they will come out and watch the (Fall) World Series Games."
The Tigers continue fall drills next week and will begin the five-game Fall World Series Sun., Oct. 15 at 2:00 p.m.
