Women's Golf Charges to 2nd Place Finish at Big 12 Fall Preview

Oct. 3, 2000

Waco, Texas - The University of Missouri women's golf team gained six strokes on the field in today's final round of play at the Big 12 Fall Preview, and charged into second place as the tournament wrapped up today at Ridgewood Country Club, in Waco, Texas.

Missouri entered today's final round in fourth place, but Tom Loyd's squad shot the best final round of any school, with a 292. That left the Tigers with a three-round team score of 899, just four shots back of champion Oklahoma State, which won with an 895 total. The 2nd-place finish represented MU's best ever in the tournament, and was up from a 5th-place showing last fall. MU finished ahead of three schools which were ranked in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin top-25 poll, besting No. 8 Texas, No. 21 Oklahoma and No. 24 Nebraska.

Senior Amelia Moses (Coronationville, South Africa) fired a one-under par 71 in today's final round to tie with Melanie Hunt of Texas Tech for the individual lead after regulation. The two squared off in a sudden-death playoff, and Hunt claimed medallist honors when she parred the par-four hole No. 1, while Moses, the reigning Big 12 Champion, bogeyed to end up second.

Fellow senior Jamie Tucker (Eureka, Mo.) was also in the hunt, as she finished tied for fourth place, with a three-round total of 222. Tucker shot rounds of 75-72-75 to notch her highest finish of the fall season.

Sophomore Elin Ohlsson (Vetlanda, Sweden) was next up for the Tigers, as she tied for 21st place overall, with a 230 total. She shot an even-par 72 in today's final round, which represented her collegiate best.

Junior Nisha Sadekar (Aurora, Ontario), freshman Tara Jacobsen and senior Jill Rosen (Springfield, Mo.) rounded out the Tiger competitors at the tournament. Sadekar tied for 37th place with a three-round score of 235. Jacobsen tied for 54th place with a 246 score, while Rosen, who competed unattached, finished in 62nd place, with a total of 251.

Next up for the Tigers is the Shootout at the Legends, to be held Oct. 9-10 in Franklin, Ind.
