Manhattan, Kan. - The University of Missouri men's golf team is in second place through two rounds of play at the inaugural Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, being held at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan. The final round will be held Tuesday morning.
Missouri shot team rounds of 306 and 300 for a two-round total of 606, which leaves the Tigers just seven shots back of leader Illinois State. The Redbirds fired team scores of 296 and 303 to post a first-day best 599. Host Kansas State is third with a 608 total in the 10-team tournament.
Individually, junior Mark McBride (Lebanon, Mo.) is in second place through two rounds, just one shot off the lead. McBride, who is the reigning Missouri State Amateur Champion, shot rounds of 75 and 73 for a 148 total, which leaves him just one shot back of Nic Baker of Illinois State (147). McBride is going for his first collegiate title.
Freshman Michael Radek (Chicago, Ill.) continued his outstanding play this fall, as he stands tied for 7th place with a two-round total of 150 after rounds of 77 and 73. Radek led MU in its last outing at Kansas, where he finished second overall, and helped pace MU to a second-place team finish.
Fellow freshman Ben Douglas (Brisbane, Australia) finds himself in the top-20, after shooting a pair of 77s for a 154 total. He is tied for 17th heading into Tuesday's final round of play.
Senior Tom Vogt (St. Charles, Mo.) shot rounds of 82 and 77, and his 159 total has him tied for 33rd after two rounds of play. Freshman Brandon Knaub (Seven Valleys, Pa.) is one shot back, tied for 35th place after rounds of 77 and 83.
Additionally, junior Chris Happ (Winnetka, Ill.) is competing individually for MU, and is tied for 27th overall, after shooting round of 76 and 81 for a 157 total.
Next up for MU is the Purina Classic, which is one of the nation's premier fall events hosted by Missouri. Dates for that competition are set for Oct. 9-10 at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Course in St. Charles, Mo.
