COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Roger Toxey scored 15 points as Winthrop held Missouri to 25-percent shooting in a 51-46 upset of the Tigers Tuesday night.
Winthrop (6-5) led 22-15 at halftime after holding Missouri (7-5) to 16-percent shooting from the field in the first half.
Missouri had a chance to tie the game with 12 seconds left, but a Keyon Dooling 3-point attempt fell short. Robbie Waldrop, who scored 14 points for Winthrop, hit two free throws with five seconds left to end the game.
With the game tied in the second half, the Eagles went on a 13-2 run to take a 42-31 lead. But Missouri rallied with 5:41 left, and put together a 13-2 run of its own to cut a 14-point deficit to three.
Dooling led Missouri's comeback with 12 second-half points and Justin Gage added nine of his career-high 11 points in the second half for the Tigers, who have lost four of their last six games.
The Tigers were 5-of-30 on 3-pointers, including 0-for-14 in the first half, and made only one of their first 16 shots.
Winthrop shot only 35 percent for the game in winning its second straight after a five-game losing string.
