Men's Golf in 2nd Place After Two Rounds at Kansas Invitational

Lawrence, Kan. - The University of Missouri men's golf team finds itself in second place after the first two rounds of play at the Kansas Invitational, which began today at Alvamar Golf Club, in Lawrence, Kan. Missouri, the defending tournament champion, shot team rounds of 303 and 294 and sits 21 strokes behind host Kansas, which had rounds of 296 and 280 for a two-round total of 576. Last fall, MU defeated the Jayhawks at the same tournament, when KU was ranked number one in the nation.

Freshman Michael Radek (Chicago, Ill.) led the way for Missouri, and stands tied for fifth place individually, with a two-round total of 146. He opened with a three-over par 75 in the morning, and fired a one-under par 71 in the afternoon - his best round of his young collegiate career.

Junior Mark McBride (Lebanon, Mo.) - the reigning Missouri State Amateur Champion - was one stroke back of his teammate, and stands in a tie for seventh place. McBride shot rounds of 74 and 73 for a 147 total, and is just five shots back of leader Gibby Martens of Texas-San Antonio. Martens fired a three-under par 69 and followed with a 73 for a two-round score of 142.

Tiger senior Tom Vogt (St. Charles, Mo.) shot rounds of 76 and 73 for a 149 total which puts him in a tie for 12th place individually. Vogt led the way in MU's last outing, when he finished eighth in Lincoln, Neb. on Sept. 11-12.

Freshman Brandon Knaub (Seven Valleys, Pa.) and sophomore Shawn Fleming (Village of Golf, Fla.) were next up in the Tiger lineup, as the duo is tied for 43rd and 52nd place, respectively. Knaub shot identical 78s for a 156 total, while Fleming opened with an 80, but shaved three strokes off in the afternoon round, with a 77.

Additionally, sophomore Chris Happ, who is competing unattached, is tied for 52nd place, after shooting rounds of 78 and 79 for a 159 total.

The final round of play gets underway tomorrow morning in Lawrence, Kan.
