Hoh Fails to Advance at U.S. Olympic Trials

Aug. 9, 2000

COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri swimmer LESLIE HOH failed to advance in the 400 individual medley at the United States Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, Ind. on Wednesday morning. Hoh, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., placed 80th overall with a time of 5:07.05. Hoh will compete again on Friday morning in the 200 individual medley.

The 19-year old swimmer is the first qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials since MU Head Coach BRIAN HOFFER took over the program nine years ago. Hoh has had trouble with morning swims before, and Hoffer felt nerves had a lot to do with her performance on Wednesday.

"I am real happy for Leslie that she is here and competing against the top swimmers in the United States," said Hoffer. "It was a tough morning, but much of that had to do with nerves. Now that she has the 400 IM out of the way, I think she will really be geared for the 200 IM on Friday."
