Three Tigers Conclude the 2000 Season at NCAA Championships on Day Two

The Missouri track and field team performed well on day two of the NCAA Championships. For the Tigers, three athletes competed with one earning All-America honors.

In the heptathlon, the final three events were concluded today: long jump, javelin and 800m. Junior Michelle Moran, competing in her first NCAA meet placed 11th overall earning All-America status with her second-best point total. Moran, the 2000 Big 12 heptathlon champion was the seventh-best American in the event. Senior Jill Aholt brought her Tiger career to a close placing 17th in the heptathlon. For Aholt, it was also her first appearance at nationals.

Christian Cantwell was the final Black and Gold athlete to compete today. The freshman hurler was unable to repeat his All-American honors from the indoor season as he placed 18th overall with a toss of 55-9 ?. Cantwell was the lone freshman to qualify for nationals in any of the four throwing events. His throw of 64-6 ? from the Big 12 meet ranks his first at the end of the 2000 outdoor collegiate season among college rookies and puts him second among American collegiates.

On Friday, Ashley Wysong will run in the finals of the 800m as will Derrick Peterson while Ryan Pirtle is running in the final of the steeplechase. Senior Espen Strindeberg starts the decathlon as well. The first five events he will compete in are the 100m dash, long jump, high jump, shot put and 400m run.
