Two Tigers Make Big 12 Softball All-Tournament Team

May 14, 2000

The Cinderella team of the Big 12 Softball Tournament had two players named to the All-Tournament team. Senior Stacy Gemeinhardt and freshman Dara Throneburg were honored by the Big 12 for being two of the top 13 players in the tournament. This marks the third year Stacy Gemeinhardt has been named to the All-Tournament team. The only year in her career she did not make it was 1998.

Gemeinhardt, a native of Belton, Mo., was a favorite of many of the College Sports Southwest broadcasters. She was called "a bone in the throats of her opponents" and had "a bat so hot it could light a firecracker." She finished the tournament with a .563 average, going 9-16 in five games. She scored four runs and had one RBI. She hit for what the Missouri staff calls a "slapper's cycle" in Missouri's 5-1 win over Kansas. In that game she had a walk, a single, a double and a triple. Gemeinhardt scored the game winning run against Texas Tech on a sacrifice fly by Linda Swarts. Gemeinhardt also had one stolen base and five putouts.

Throneburg, from Casey, Ill., finished the tournament with a .462 average. She was 6-13 in the tournament and scored three runs and had five RBI. Three of her RBI came from a three-run homer in Missouri's 5-1 play-in win over Kansas. Throneburg also had a stolen base.

The Tigers will find out tonight if and where their season continues. The NCAA Softball Regional selection show begins at 8:30 p.m. Satellite coordinates are Telstar 6, Transponder 7 on the C-Band. It can also be seen on DirecTV on Fox Sports West or Fox Sports Arizona.
