Tigers Sign Top Player From St. Charles County

May 5, 2000

COLUMBIA, MO -- One of the top pitchers in the St. Louis area has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Missouri.

MU Head Coach Tim Jamieson announced today that the Tigers have signed Mike Mitchell, a 6-foot-2, 180-lb. righthander from St. Peters, Mo., and Fort Zumwalt South High School.

This season, Mitchell got off to a 3-1 start, racking up 23 strikeouts in 21 innings with just two walks. He has a 0.60 earned run average.

In American Legion play last summer, Mitchell was 7-1.

"Mike is a hard-throwing right hander with very good control," Jamieson said. "We expect him to be able to come in and help us right away next year as a freshman."
