Sooners Sweep Tigers

Despite out hitting the Sooners 17-11 in two games, the Tigers still lost the series, losing the first game 7-3 and the second 2-1.

Oklahoma scored their first run in the top of the first when pitcher Ingrid Werner walked Andrea Davis with the bases loaded. She was immediately relieved by Christy Caccavo. Caccavo came in and got the job done, allowing the defense to throw the next two batters out at home. The final batter of the inning flew out to left field. The Sooners scored again in the second. Leah Gulla scored on a Christy Ring double to center field.

Missouri scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth. Linda Swarts led off with a single to left field. Christy Skouby followed with a single to the opposite field. Dara Throneburg advanced both the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Swarts scored on a Karen Williams single, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Sooners.

Missouri was plagued by errors in the top of the fifth and sixth innings. The Sooners scored two runs on three hits and an error in the fifth, and three runs on two hits and three errors in the sixth. The Tiger miscues allowed the Sooners the 7-1 lead.

The Tigers tried to muster a rally in the bottom of the seventh. They got one going, but just couldn't keep it going. Karen Williams led off with a single, but was thrown out at second on a fielder's choice play on the next batter. With two outs and a runner on first, Stacy Gemeinhardt drove a triple into center field, scoring Vassmer. Erin Erickson singled to center field to score Gemeinhardt. The rally wouldn't continue those as Linda Swarts struck out, leaving the Tigers with the 7-3 loss.

Christy Caccavo took the loss for the Tigers. Jennifer Stewart was the winning pitcher for Oklahoma.

The second game was much closer. Oklahoma scored their first run in the first inning on a home run by Lisa Carey, her second of the day. Missouri answered in the second with a homer by Christy Skouby, tying the game at 1-1.

Oklahoma went ahead in the top of the third. Gulla scored on a Carey double to center field. Both teams battled it out through the remaining innings, they both got hits, but couldn't advance their runners, ending the game with a 2-1 victory for the Sooners.

Stephanie Falk took the loss for Missouri, while Lana Moran got the win for the Sooners.

Missouri has two days off before they take on the Texas A&M Aggies this weekend in College Station. The games will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
