After dropping two games to Nebraska and splitting with Iowa State, the Tigers dropped two more to No. 16 Iowa. Missouri was unable to cross the plate in either game, losing the first game 2-0 and the second 7-0. In two games, the Tigers committed six total errors to the Hawkeyes two, ending Missouri's spring break on a somber note.
In the first game, the Tigers came out swinging with Stacy Gemeinhardt knocking down a single to third. Gemeinhardt was eventually caught stealing second following a pop fly by Karen Williams. From there, Missouri's other hits came in the third and seventh innings off touches by Sara Vassmer and Williams. The Tigers finished the game with three hits while the Hawkeyes scored two runs off seven hits.
Missouri was unable to stir things up in the second game. The Hawkeyes scored their first run on a wild pitch by Tiger pitcher Stephanie Falk in the first inning. Iowa went on to finish the game scoring in all but two innings in a 6 1/2 inning game. McGrane and Lindsey Jacoby gave the Tigers an offensive punch, but were unable to cross home plate. In the Tigers half of the fifth, McGrane and Jacoby both singled to left field. Jacoby's hit sent McGrane to second. McGrane was then replaced on base by Kristen Burke who eventually rounded third while Jacoby landed safely on second. Unfortunately, an out at the top of the Missouri order stranded both runners on base.
In the second game, McGrane tallied one hit on offense while recording six putouts and one assist on defense. Jacoby ended the game with two hits at two at bats. On the defensive end, she recorded three putouts and three assists.
The Tigers hope to turn things around this weekend in a series with the Texas Longhorns. The series will be the first of five consecutive home games at University Field. Game time on April 1 is set for 1:00 p.m.
