The Huskers stole another win from the Tigers today at Husker Softball Complex in Lincoln, Neb. Missouri once again took the lead early, but again a late husker rally led to the Tigers' one-run defeat. The Tigers out hit the Huskers, but Nebraska's hits were just bigger and at more opportune times.
Missouri scored an easy run the top of the first. Stacy Gemeinhardt started off with a leadoff walk. She advanced to second on a Karen Williams sacrifice bunt, and to third on a Christy Skouby ground out. Swarts hit a single down the right field line to score Gemeinhardt.
The Huskers answered and tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an Amber Burgess home run over the center field fence. They scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Jennifer Williams led off with a double to right field. Alice Brewer singled to center field, advancing Williams to third. Jill Baker reached base on a Linda Swarts error, loading the bases. The Tigers then brought in Ingrid Werner to relieve starter Stephanie Falk on the mound. Amanda Buchholz walked, allowing the winning run to walk in.
The Tiger's got one runner on base in the seventh, but were not able to bring her home, ending the game with a 2-1 Nebraska victory.
The winning pitcher was Leigh Ann Walker, who was brought in to relieve starter Jenny Voss after one batter in the sixth. Stephanie Falk was credited with the loss for the Tigers. Her record moves to 11-7.
The Tigers remain on the road. They will have a day off Monday and will face the Iowa State Cyclones in a doubleheader in Ames beginning at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
