Conference Announces Men's Swimming & Diving Academic All-Big 12 Team

Feb. 21, 2000

Two men have been named to the swimming and diving Academic All-Big 12 teams by the conference office. One of MU's honorees earned first team academic all-conference honors the first year he was eligible. On the squad there are 31 repeat performers from the previous academic all-league teams including one of MU's two honorees.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grape point average or higher either cumulative of the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic interest. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are eligible. First-team members consist of this who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade-point average, while the second-team are those who have a 3.0 to 3.19 GPA.

Mizzou's first team honoree was Andy Cole, Cordova, Tenn., a sophomore majoring in business. Cole received the honor the first year he was eligible. David Kinsella, Downers Grove, Ill., a fifth-year senior majoring in interdisciplinary studies earned second team honors. Kinsella did not compete for MU this year after wrapping up his Tiger career last season, but was still eligible since he is still in school.

The men are currently in the final stages of their taper as they head down to College Station, Texas next week to take on the rest of the conference at the Big 12 Championships held, March 2-4.
