Tigers Take to The Pool Again

Up next for the Tigers is a trip to Springfield, Mo., to compete in a dual with Southwest Missouri State. The meet will take place Saturday (Jan. 15) at 1 p.m. It will be the first time the swimmers and divers will be competing after a month hiatus from competition.

Last Time Out

Southwest Missouri State will present the Tigers with quite a challenge for their first meet of the new year. The last time either team was in action was Dec. 3-5 at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The women defeated nationally ranked Tennessee and Indiana while the men finished second to the Hoosiers. Both MU squads defeated SMS in 1999 in Columbia, Mo. The women won with a score of 171-79 while the men defeated the Bears 141-102. The Black and Gold women bring a 4-2 record into the meet while the men boast a 3-0 record. SMS's men's squad is undefeated in dual meet action with a 7-0 record while the women are carrying a 5-3 record into the meet on Saturday.

Ready, Set, Go

So how did the Tigers spend their holiday break, they traveled to St. Louis to train at the Rec-Plex. MU spent the week prior to the holidays doing quite a bit a training. After the New Year, Mizzou came back to Columbia a week early to get back into the swing of things before classes started.

MU Swimmers Rank in Top 50

Two male members of the Tiger squad have performances currently ranked in the 1999-2000 top 50. Freshman sensation Matt Ferrarelli leads the way with two swims while MU's 'go-to' man Aaron Lo, in ranked in one event. Ferrarelli has the 34th fastest time in the 200 IM and the 35th fastest time in the 400 IM while Lo has the 29th fastest 50 free to date.

Three of Missouri's relay teams are also ranked in the top 30. The black and gold's 200 free relay is ranked 17th while its 800 free relay and 200 medley relay are ranked 28th. Those swimmers making up the 200 free relay are Lo, juniors Brendan Smith, Mike Cervenka and Jon Baumgart. The 800 free relay team is made up of freshman Radu Miclaus, Cervenka, Smith and Ferrarelli. The 200 medley relay members are Miclaus, Lo, sophomore Andy Cole and Smith.

Missouri Getting it Done in the Classroom

The men's team turned in the third best GPA. for all Missouri's men's squads. Three Tigers also earned 4.0 GPAs. Freshman Radu Miclaus was Mizzou's lone current swimmer to earn a perfect GPA while former swimmer Neal Herman closed out his Missouri career with a 4.0. Craig Koenig also earned a 4.0 with only one semester left in his career. Five MU male swimmers were named to the Dean's List. They were Matt Ferrarelli, Dan Knudson, Radu Miclaus, Kyle Sanders and Randy Swift.
