
Women's Golf Finishes Second at Texas

Austin, Texas - The University of Missouri women's golf team finished second at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic, which wrapped up today at the Great Hills Golf Club, in Austin, Texas. Host Texas ran away with the tournament, winning with a three-round team total of 892. The Tigers were second, finishing 48 strokes back of the 11th-ranked Longhorns, at 940, and were five strokes ahead of Baylor, which took third, at 945. Consistency was the name of the game for Mizzou, as the Tigers posted team scores of 313-314-313 for the tournament.
Senior standout STEFANIE MITCHELL (74-78-71=223) had another solid performance, as she finished second individually, with a three-round total of 223 (seven-over par). She finished five strokes back of medallist Kristin Dufour of Texas, who won with a 218 total. Mitchell closed strong, firing a one-under par 71 on the final day, which tied for the best round of the tournament. She was the only non-Longhorn golfer to finish among the field's top seven. She now has two top-3 finishes in three starts this spring, and boasts four top-10 finishes for the 1998-99 season.
Freshman AMELIA MOSES (76-79-81=236) was next among Tiger individuals, as she placed 15th overall, with a total of 236. Moses was tied for 7th place after an opening-round 76 on Friday, but slipped with closing rounds of 79 and 81. She finished just four strokes shy of notching her first top-10 finish of the spring season.
Next up for the Tigers was sophomore JAMIE TUCKER (81-78-82=241), who finished in a tie for 20th place, with a three-round total of 241. It was the third-straight top-25 finish for Tucker, who is in her first season for MU, after transferring from Kansas prior to the school year.
Rounding out the Tiger finishers were LETITIA MOSES (82-84-79=245) and NISHA SADEKAR (83-79-85=247). Moses tied for 28th overall, with her total of 245, and Sadekar tied for 32nd, two strokes back, with a 247 total. Moses saved her best for last, as she shot a final-round 79 to notch her best round of the tournment. Sadekar's second-round 79 was her best 18 holes of the tournament.
Next up for the Tigers, who ranked 36th in the nation in the most recent MasterCard/Rolex Collegiate Team Rankings, is the prestigious Utah-Dixie Classic, to be held April 5-6 in St. George, Utah.
