COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers returned to Columbia with a 15-13 record after splitting a two-game series with the Kansas Jayhawks (10-19) this week. The Tigers dropped Tuesday's contest by a score of 3-2, but bounced back for a 12-8 victory on Wednesday.
Tuesday night marked the return of senior All-Big 12 pitcher Chris George, who had missed the last five weeks with a broken foot suffered on Feb. 21 at Texas. George pitched four strong innings for Missouri allowing just one hit while striking out four.
Missouri led by a score of 2-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Both Mizzou runs scored in the third inning on an RBI by Jake Epstein and a wild pitch. Ralph McCasland rolled along in relief of George until the eighth inning when he gave up a double to Brandon O'Neal. McCasland walked Doug Dreher and then proceeded to give up a two-run triple to Brett Kappelmann. Ryan Jamison relieved McCasland and surrendered the go-ahead run on a single by John Nelson.
Pete Smart (2-0) pitched three scoreless inning out of the bullpen for Kansas in relief of starter Rusty Philbrick to pick up the win.
The Tigers had their hitting shoes on in Wednesday's contest as the Tigers went through six Kansas pitchers in their 12-8 victory. Jon Williams had four hits for the Tigers while Aaron Wilson collected two doubles, a home run and three RBI. Jake Epstein also homered for the Tigers and drove in three runs.
Jody Harris (4-3) pitched six solid innings for the victory. Harris gave up just two earned runs on eight hits while striking out four. His ERA is now 2.73.
