COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers (9-7) pounded out 19 hits while receiving a strong pitching performance by Logan Dale en route to a 10-3 victory over Western Illinois (0-8) on Tuesday night at Simmons Field. The two teams will meet again tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
After Western Illinois scored a run in the first inning, the Tigers got five in the second. Nick Wilfong (2-for-4) drove in Mike Rallo (2-for-4) with a double. Following a sacrifice fly by Mike Ketelsen, W.T. Hoover (3-for-3, 2 RBI) doubled in a run to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Hoover's double was followed by a two-run home run by Ryan Stegall (2-for-5, 2 RBI), his eighth of the season, to give Mizzou a 5-1 advantage.
The Tigers added two more runs in the fourth inning. Hoover led the frame off with his first career home run. Jon Williams later doubled in a run to give the Tigers a 7-2 lead. Missouri added another run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh.
Dale (2-1) hurled a season high 6 1/3 innings surrendering three runs on seven hits. Ralph McCasland and P.J. McGinnis combined for 2 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball while allowing three hits. Brett Kelley (0-2) was the losing pitcher for Western Illinois.
