Tigers Down Kansas 7-4

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers (20-13, 4-9) ran their winning-streak to six games on Friday night with a 7-4 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks (10-25, 4-15) at Simmons Field. Justin Stine (5-3) pitched the distance for the Tigers striking out a career-high 13 batters. The same two teams will meet tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

Missouri took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Kansas starter Rusty Philbrick. After a lead-off walk to W.T. Hoover, J.R. Warner tripled off of the right field wall to make it 1-0. Warner scored on a ground out by Aaron Wilson.

Missouri made it 3-0 in the second inning thanks to two freshmen. Ryan Stegall (2-for-4) led off the inning with a double and was doubled in by fellow frosh Luke Cassis.

The Tigers added two more runs off of Philbrick in the third inning on an RBI single by Jon Williams (2-for-3. Another run crossed the plate when Mick Weiss hit into a double play.

Stine cruised through the first four innings for the Tigers but fell into trouble in the fifth inning. Seven consecutive Jayhawks got hits off of Stine, but only three crossed the plate in the inning. Missouri scored two more runs in the sixth inning on a two-run homer by Nick Wilfong. Stine gave up just one more run to pick up the complete game win.

Philbrick (2-6) was the loser for the Jayhawks. It is the first time Missouri had defeated Philbrick in three tries.
