COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers (22-13, 6-9) ran their winning-streak to eight games on Sunday afternoon as they completed a three-game sweep of the Kansas Jayhawks (10-27, 4-17) by a score of 14-12 at Simmons Field. Missouri collected 16 hits in the game while only six of the Jayhawks' 12 runs were earned. Jody Harris (5-3) picked up the win for the Tigers.
Kansas jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning against Harris, but none of the runs were earned. Mizzou committed three errors behind Harris in the inning. Kansas collected just three hits in the frame.
Missouri began chipping away at the lead in the second inning when they put three runs on the board against Kansas starter Ryan Schmidt. Ryan Stegall (2-for-4, 2 RBI), W.T. Hoover (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and J.R. Warner (4-for-6, 3 RBI) all drove in runs for Missouri in the inning. The Tigers tagged on four more runs and took the lead in the third inning 7-6 and knocked Schmidt out of the game. With the bases loaded, Nick Wilfong drew a walk and then Hoover was hit by a pitch. That cut the lead to 6-5. Then Warner came through again with a two-run single giving the Tigers the lead
Missouri added another run in the fourth inning and three more in the sixth. Jon Williams connected for his third home run of the season and Luke Cassis added an RBI single. The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning and another in the eighth. Aaron Wilson's hitting-streak reached 16 games when he homered off of Kansas reliever Corey Harrington in the seventh inning.
Jody Harris pitched seven strong innings for Missouri allowing six hits while striking out nine. The six runs he gave up were all unearned. Ralph McCasland pitched a perfect eighth inning before the Tigers called on closer Ryan Jamison to get some work in in the ninth inning. Jamison let Kansas back in the game by giving up six runs in the ninth. Mitch Kiler was called upon to get the final out as he collected his first career save.
