COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers (8-5, 1-3) notched their first conference win of the season on Friday afternoon as they shutout No. 18 Texas Tech (14-5, 3-1) by a score of 7-0 at Simmons Field in Columbia. Missouri's Jody Harris (3-0) hurled his second straight complete game while the Tigers handed Texas Tech All-American pitcher Shane Wright (4-1) his first loss since Feb. 27, 1998.
Missouri took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Aaron Wilson (2-for-5). Mizzou added to their lead by scoring two runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Jon Williams (2-for-3) singled home a run with nobody out in the fourth inning while the second run scored after a bases loaded double play. In the fifth inning, Missouri freshmen Mick Weiss (2-for-5) and Ryan Stegall (3-for-3, 2 RBI) both drove in runs to give the Tigers a 5-0 advantage.
Missouri added two more runs in the seventh inning on an RBI triple by Stegall and a Daniel Cole wild pitch that would score Williams.
Missouri left hander Jody Harris hurled nine innings of scoreless baseball allowing the Red Raiders just three hits. He walked one batter while striking out seven. Texas Tech entered the game with a team batting average of .364.
