COLUMBIA, Mo.- University of Missouri freshman KAREEM RUSH had his suspension reduced from 50 percent to 33 percent of Missouri's remaining basketball games the NCAA announced this afternoon. A NCAA Subcommittee responded to an appeal made by the University of Missouri earlier this morning regarding Rush's eligibility status after Rush received impermissible benefits from an AAU coach prior to his enrollment at Missouri.
Rush originally was told he would have to sit out 50 percent of Missouri's remaining games. The subcommittee ruled this afternoon that Rush will have to sit out 33 percent of all games, making him eligible to return to action on Jan. 29 when the Tigers host Texas A&M. Rush will also have to repay $1800 to charity via a payment plan. His first payment must be made before Jan. 29 while his last payment will be due before his length of eligibility at Missouri expires.
"We appreciate the opportunity given to us by the NCAA to allow us to appeal this case," said Director of Athletics MICHAEL ALDEN. "We appreciate the timeliness in the matter and we are very happy that closure has been brought to this situation."
"We are happy to put this situation behind us, especially for Kareem," said Coach QUIN SNYDER. "We are looking forward to getting on with the rest of this season and putting this behind us."
