The Missouri women's soccer team advanced Wednesday in the Big 12 Conference Tournament with a 5-3 victory over Colorado. Eleven minutes into the match, Tiger junior Amy Timmerman scored the first goal of the game off a deflection. However, the Buffaloes didn't roam too far when ten minutes later they answered to tie the game 1-1. With 15 minutes to go in the first half Missouri senior forward Erin Grimsley scored the game winner off a pass from All-Big 12 first-teamer Nikki Thole.

Improving their record to 11-0 when leading at halftime, the Tigers secured their lead when freshman Suzanne Probst scored just four minutes into the second half. Her goal, a rocket from 20 yards out, put the Tigers up 3-1. Thole then showed the crowd why she was the Big 12's leading scorer in 1999. Within seven minutes Thole scored the last two Missouri goals: one, a header from a Timmerman pass, and the other a turn-and-shoot from Grimsley.

Colorado continued to press the Tiger defense, though. At the 70-minute mark Colorado's Shawn Kenyon threatened the Tiger lead when she penetrated the defense to put a second goal on the board for the Buffs. Then with just two minutes left to play the Buffaloes crossed the ball into the box to score one last time before the game ended.

MU Director of Athletics Michael Alden was in attendance to see the Tigers improve to 3-0 in the first round of Big 12 Tournament play. Missouri plays Iowa State, which defeated Texas A&M on penalty shots, on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at 5:00 p.m. That game will be updated on TOTALCAST? available via www.big12sports.com.
