
Missouri Wrestlers Shine At CMSU Open

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri wrestling team placed 11 wrestlers among the top-six of their weight class at the Central Missouri State University Open on Sunday.
Sophomore John Kopnisky and freshman Jeremy Spates earned the championship at the 174 lb. and 141 lb. weight classes. Todd Cox (141), Jeff Urban (149), Kevin Herron (197), and Chad Hertzog (HWT) were second place finishers in their respective divisions.
Also earning place honors were Jesse Jordan (157) and Steve Sakis (165) who each finished third, and Mark Bader (133), Mark Vollmar (165), and RJ Young (149) who each finished sixth.
Of the 21 Missouri wrestlers who participated, 17 had .500 or above records during the open. Kopnisky?s 5-0 record pushed his season mark to 6-0. It is the second staright season that ?Kop? has started the season 6-0.
Missouri opens its home schedule Thursday, November 18 at 7p.m. when it hosts No. 6 Oklahoma State in the Hearnes Center Arena. The match will be the first Big 12 Conference dual of the season for both schools.
