Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Women?s Soccer team won its 12th match of the season Sunday, a new season-high, with a 4-1 victory over Tulsa at Walton Stadium. The Tigers are now 12-6-1, while the Tulsa squad fell to 8-10.
On Senior Day, senior forward Erin Grimsley scored two goals and junior forward Nikki Thole netted a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder Amy Timmermann scored Missouri?s fourth goal, her second of the season. Senior Liz LaTour notched the win in goal for MU.
?Our team showed alot of poise and maturity today,? Missouri Head Coach Bryan Blitz said afterward. ?In the end our depth and experience won this game for us.?
Missouri, now 11-3 in it scores the first goal, got on the board first in the 9th minute when Grimsley booted a Thole pass into the lower right corner, giving MU the 1-0 lead. The score was Grimsley?s 13th of the season. Tulsa tied it in the 33rd minute when Columbia native Julie Twellman knocked home a deflected shot past Missouri keeper Jackie Adamec.
The halftime tie lasted until the 49th minute when Thole, who had six shots on goal, found the back of the net after beating a Tulsa defender and the Tulsa keeper with two dribbling moves. Thole leads the Tigers with 17 goals on the season.
Less than one minute later, Grimsley netted her second goal of the match and 14th of the season, when she headed home a Kate Dwyer corner kick and Missouri led 3-1. Grimsley has now scored 14 goals in both her seasons at MU.
In the 85th minute it was Timmermann?s turn to score. The junior took a pass, which split two defenders, from Mandy Pavlovits and powered a left-foot shot past the diving Tulsa keeper for her second goal of the season.
Missouri next plays Wednesday, November 3 at 7:30pm versus Colorado in the first round of the Big 12 Conference Tournament held in San Antonio, Texas. The Tigers are the No. 3 seed in the tounament, the highest seed the team has held in three trips to the conference tourney.
