LUBBOCK, Texas - The Missouri Women?s Soccer team dropped its third match of the season Friday afternoon, 4-1 to Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas. The loss drops MU to 7-3-0 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 Conference in 1999. The lone Tiger score came off the foot of senior Erin Grimsley at 72:32, her eighth of the season. The goal was assisted by freshman Suzanne Probst.
?We did not show up to play today,? Head Coach Bryan Blitz said. ?Texas Tech beat us in every aspect of the game.?
The Red Raiders scorched the Tigers with a pair of goals only 2:19 apart in the match?s first seven minutes. TTU scored at 4:43 and then made the score 2-0 with another goal at 7:02. The score remained 2-0 at half, but the second period featured more Red Raider offense with another quick pair of scores.
Texas Tech scored at 64:14 and 67:27 of the match to put MU away and hand the Tigers thier first defeat in conference play, their second defeat in the last three matches.
Grimsley?s goal at 72:32 kept MU from being shutout for the first time this season. Lack of offensive pop has been MU?s problem in their losses, as the Tigers have managed only one goal in each of their three loses in 1999 including today?s action.
The Tigers will regroup and be back in action Sunday, October 3 in Waco, Texas when they take on the No. 14-ranked Baylor Bears at 1pm.
