Men's Golf Takes 2nd at Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb. - The University of Missouri men?s golf team finished second at the Fairway Club Invitational, which wrapped up today with 18 holes of play at Firethorn Golf Club, in Lincoln, Neb.

The Tigers shot a final round score of 293 on Tuesday to finish with a three-round team total of 888, which was two shots ahead of Colorado State and California, who tied for third at 890. Kansas won the tournament going away with a three-round score of 853. Head Coach Tim Robyn?s Tigers finished ahead of fellow Big 12 competitors Colorado (5th ? 897) and host Nebraska (6th ? 898).

Leading the way individually for Missouri was sophomore Neal Stafford. The Springfield, Mo. native finished third overall with a three-round total of 214. He was 12 strokes behind medalist Ryan Vermeer of Kansas, and just three shots back of Andy Stewart of Kansas, who was second with a 211 total.

Fellow sophomore Mark McBride?s 8th-place individual finish gave the Tigers two top ten performances. McBride shot rounds of 71-73-76 for a three-round total of 220.

Senior David Suggs shot one of the low rounds of the day, with a 71, and finished tied for 22nd overall. Other Tiger competitors included sophomore Cory Ewert (T-38th ? 231) and freshman Shawn Fleming (T-51st ? 238).

Up next for Missouri is the Kansas Invitational, to be held Sept. 20-21 in Lawrence, Kan.
