Gold Defeats Black In Volleyball Scrimmage

The Missouri Tiger volleyball team held their first official scrimmage of the year on Aug. 22. The Gold squad took the Black squad in four games 15-12, 5-15, 8-15, 12-15. Members of the winning Gold squad were Rachael Taylor, Lisa Morris, Jen Gerlach, Annette Luyten, Katie Sowers, and student manager Mike Maloney. Members of the Black squad were Nikki Myhra, Heather Gerber, Nicole Panzau, Krista Johnson, Naaron Branson, Rachel Rieble, and Christi Myers.

Redshirt freshman Lisa Morris led the Gold squad in hitting percentage with a .196 average. Junior Annette Luyten was right behind her with a .179 clip. Junior captain Heather Gerber led the Black squad with a .500 hitting percentage. Freshman Rachel Rieble was second behind Gerber with a .227 clip.

In passing statistics, Morris led both teams with an average of 2.06 while freshman Nicole Panzau of the Black squad led her team with a 1.97 average.

"The Black & Gold scrimmage was a great preview for the coaching staff. We saw great things out of the young freshman, giving the staff a lot of encouragement about what we?ll see this year," head coach Disa Johson said. "The team is already playing at a higher level than they were at the end of 1998. We are really looking forward to playing in an official setting."

The volleyball team will have another scrimmage the week before they travel to Oregon State.
