Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri Tiger women's soccer team notched their first win of the 1999 season Sunday, with a 6-2 victory over Colorado in the Big 12 Conference home-opener for the Tigers. Missouri exploded for five goals in the second half and improved to 1-1-0 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 Conference play.
Five Tigers netted scores for MU, led by senior forward Erin Grimsley who scored her first and second goals of the season. Sophomore Sarah Sallee got the Tigers on the board after CU had taken a 1-0 lead, with a dribbling goal to tie the match at one. Colorado?s Shawn Kenyon put CU up 2-1, when she beat Tiger goalkeeper Jackie Adamec with a one-on-one move and score. At half, CU led 2-1.
Fourteen minutes into the second half the barrage of Tiger goals began. At 59:51 junior Kristen Boeker blasted in a twenty-yard shot off of a free kick restart from Nikki Thole. Just 39 seconds later, Grimsley took off down the the middle of the field with a ball and then touched a soft pass to Thole streaking to the goal. Missouri?s all-time leading goal scorer knew what to do with it as Thole deposited the ball in the lower -left of the net to put the Tigers on top to stay, 3-2.

At 75:33 it was senior Kate Dwyer?s turn as she booted in a shot that had bounced off the crossbar and into the field of play from nearly 25 yards out. That made it 4-2 Missouri.
?Kate Dwyer changed the complexion of the game,? Blitz said. ?She came in and scored the goal that composed us and stabilized the midfield play.?
Grimsley scored both of her goals in the match?s final 2:30, heading in a crossing pass from junior Amy Timmermann at 87:25 and then knocking in a shot from in front of the net at 89:04.
Missouri next plays Friday, September 3 at 4pm when they play Indiana as part of the Ellis Copy Tiger Invitational at Walton Stadium. The first game Friday features Michigan and Vanderbilt beginning at 2pm. Sunday, September 5 the Tigers are in action at 1pm versus Michigan a match preceeded by an Indiana-Vanderbilt matchup at 11am.
