October 16, 1998

COLUMBIA, Mo - For the third time this season Missouri scored seven goals in one game. For the first time in three years Missouri has had eight wins in a season. For the fourth time this season Nikki Thole scored a hat trick. For the first time ever in Missouri history they are 4-2 in conference.

Oh and they beat Iowa State.

Immediately off the kick off Missouri applied pressure. Just four minutes into the game the "Dynamic Duo" of Nikki Thole and Erin Grimsley connected for the first goal of the game. Two minutes later sophomore midfielder Amy Timmerman found Thole for her first goal of the game when she headed the ball past Iowa State goalkeeper Lynley Hilligoss. Missouri continued their barrage of goals when Jennifer Maunder scored her first of the season. It wasn't until the 35th minute of the game that Iowa State had it's first and only shot in the first half.

In the sixth minute of the second half, Thole scored her second of the game when freshman Stephanie Brennan and Amy Timmerman worked the ball through the Cyclone defense. However, Iowa State attacked the Tiger defense and eventually penetrated the goal when Jun Shen scored. Thole answered three minutes later when she scored her third goal of the game.

Iowa State then scored their second and last goal of the game when forward Patti Reed was fouled and set up Lindsey Rector for the free kick, which was placed just below the goal bar.
