Women's Golf Takes Sixth at Big 12 Fall Preview

October 4, 1998

Austin, Texas -- - The University of Missouri women's golf team finished in sixth place at the third annual Big 12 Women's Golf Fall Preview, held Oct. 3-4 at Circle C Golf Course, in Austin, Texas. The tournament featured 36 holes of play yesterday, and finished with 18 today.

Missouri, which finished third in the same tournament last season, was in the same spot heading into today's final round, just two strokes behind second-place Texas (613 to 615). But a final-round team score of 320 (after opening rounds of 309-306) dropped the Tigers to sixth.

The lowest round of the day that a Tiger could manage was by senior STEFANIE MITCHELL, who shot a seven-over 79 to finish with a three-round total of 233. That total (78-76-79) left her tied for 16th individually. The Cameron, Ill. native finished tied for 6th at last year's Big 12 Fall Preview.

Just one stroke behind Mitchell was fellow senior LETITIA MOSES (77-76-81=234), who finished tied for 19th place overall. Moses was tied for ninth entering the final round of play.

One stroke back was a pair of Tigers, sophomore AMELIA MOSES (78-77-80=235) and freshman NISHA SADEKAR (78-77-80=235). The pair shot identical scores each round, and finished tied for 23rd. Moses, the younger sister of senior Letitia, improved on her '97 Fall Preview score, when she finished tied for 20th. Sadekar was making her first conference appearance.

Rounding out the Tiger lineup was junior TOBI PROBST (76-78-83=237). The Columbus, Ind. native was tied for 14th overall entering the final round of play.

Oklahoma State defended its 1997 Fall Preview title, winning by eight strokes over runner-up Texas. The Cowgirls gave up ten strokes over the final round, but held on for the win with a three-round total of 908. Texas was next with 916, while Texas A&M was third with 922.

Next up for the Tigers is the Big Ten-Big 12 Challenge, to be held Oct. 12-13 in Franklin, Ind.
