Women's Golf Takes 6th at Utah-Dixie Classic

April 7, 1999

St. George, Utah - The University of Missouri women's golf team finished in 6th place overall at the Utah-Dixie Classic, which wrapped up yesterday at Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. Missouri, which finished 5th in this same tournament last year, finished 26 shots back of tournament champion Oklahoma State, which won with a three-round team total of 912. Missouri lost 21 of those strokes to OSU in the final round, as MU shot a team round of 324, compared to OSU's final-round 303. Mizzou had posted totals of 309 and 305, respectively, in the first two rounds.

Missouri was led individually by senior STEFANIE MITCHELL (75-73-79=227), who tied for 8th overall, with a three-round total of 227. Mitchell finished just five strokes back of medalist Carrie Summerhays of BYU, who won with a 222 total. Much like the Tiger team, Mitchell's shot at champion honors fell by the wayside in the final round, as she shot a 7-over par 79 in the final 18 holes.

Sophomore JAMIE TUCKER (70-78-73=231) gave Missouri two top-20 finishers in the prestigious tournament, as she finished 16th overall, with a 231 total. Tucker tied for 11th in the same tournament last year, as a freshman at Kansas. Her final-round 73 was one shot shy of a tournament best score, and represented her best round as a Tiger.

Rounding out the Tiger lineup were junior TOBI PROBST (77-76-86=239), sophomore AMELIA MOSES (78-78-86=242) and senior LETITIA MOSES (79-86-88=253). Probst tied for 44th place with her 239 total, while Amelia Moses was three strokes back, at 242, and tied for 53rd place. Letitia Moses found trouble in the final two rounds, and slipped to a tie for 94th place, with her 253 total.

Next up for Missouri is the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, to be held April 12-13, in Norman, Okla.
