LINCOLN, NEB, - Shannon Brown set three Missouri NCAA Regional records Saturday night in placing ninth in the all-around at the NCAA Region 3 Gymnastics Championships
Competing in the NCAA Regionals for the second straight year, Brown set MU regional records on the balance beam (9.875), floor exercise (9.775) and in the all-around (38.625). As she did last year, she placed second among the six individual all-arounders, trailing only Texas Woman University's Kim Koenig (38.675).
Also competing for MU were seniors Amanda Peterson and Jessica Haag. They scored 38.1 and 37.075, respectively, in placing 17th and 21st. For Haag, it was her lowest all-around score of the season. The Big 12 Conference vaulting champion, Haag's vault score Saturday of 9.725 was well off her school-record mark of 9.925 set two weeks ago at the Big 12 Championships in Columbia.
Brown tied with Nebraska's Courtney Brown for third place on the balance beam, just behind co-champions Nicole Wilkinson of Nebraska and Heidi Hornbeek of Arizona (9.9). Had Brown won or tied for first place, she would have advanced to the NCAA Championships, April 22-24, in Salt Lake City.
Michigan won the team competition. The Wolverines edged out the homestanding Nebraska Cornhuskers, 196.75-196.325. Both teams will advance to the national championship meet. Rounding out the field were Arizona (193.625), Oklahoma (193.525), Illinois (193.1) and Illinois-Chicago (192.4).
