San Juan, Puerto Rico - The University of Missouri men's golf team got its 1999 spring season underway, as the Tigers finished 17th at the San Juan Shoot-Out, held Feb. 21-23 at Rio Mar Country Club, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Head Coach Tim Robyn featured a young lineup, going with three freshmen, one junior and one senior.
Leading the way individually was one of those freshmen, JANSZEN RINGO (76-73-75=224), who finished tied for 43rd place overall, with a three-round total of 224. The rookie from Ironton, Mo. shot the low individual round among Tigers in each round.
Next up for the Tigers was veteran junior DAVID SUGGS (79-75-78=232), who tied for 66th place overall, with his three-round score of 232. Suggs was MU's top man from the fall season, with a team-best 74.60 stroke average, in four fall outings.
Freshman CORY EWERT (80-74-79=233) was the next Tiger finisher, as he took 69th place individually, with a score of 233. His second-round 74 represented a personal best as a collegian.
Just two strokes back was fellow freshman MARK McBRIDE (81-77-77=235). McBride, a Lebanon, Mo. native, finished 76th overall, with his total of 235. McBride had the second-best stroke average in the fall, with a mark of 74.73 per round.
Rounding out the Tiger lineup was senior ETHAN ROST (85-75-81=241), who finished in 85th place with a three-round total of 241. Rost played in three fall tournaments, and averaged 76.11 per round.
Next up for Missouri will be the Louisiana Classic, to be held March 8-9, 1999, at Oakbourne Country Club, in Lafayette, La.
