Cornhuskers Down MU Wrestlers, 23-15

Columbia, Mo. - In their final home match of the season, the Missouri Tiger wrestling team was defeated by No. 3 Nebraska at the Hearnes Fieldhouse Wednesday night 23-15. MU stayed close to the highly ranked Cornhuskers throughout the match, but dropped their ninth dual of the season and fifth in succession. Overall Missouri is now 3-9, while Nebraska improved to 17-6.

The Tigers were victorious in three of the first seven matches, trailing just 14-9 with three matches to go. Wins by Jesse Jordan, John Kopnisky, and Chad Hertzog accounted for MU's points as the match headed to the 125 dual. The Huskers gained control in that match as Paul Gomez pinned MU's Jake Lapinski in 5:48, raising Nebraska's lead to 20-9. Todd Beckerman got NU's last victory at 133 over Mark Bader and Nebraska forfeited the 141 match to Cliff Sutcliffe ending the match at 23-15.

Missouri will travel to DeKalb, Illinois for the next match versus Northern Illinois this Sunday, the match will also be the final one of the regular season for MU.
