Nick Grunenwald joined the University of Missouri Department of Athletics in June 2022 and currently serves as the Associate Athletics Director for Human Resources

A member of the department’s senior leadership and leadership teams, Grunenwald returned to collegiate athletics after seven years in the private sector. An experienced corporate attorney, he most recently spent three years as Corporate and Securities Counsel for Spectrum Brands Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: SPB), a publicly traded consumer products company with approximately $5 billion in annual revenue and 12,000 employees globally.

Prior to his time with Spectrum Brands, he spent four years as a corporate and securities associate at the law firm of Bass, Berry & Sims in Nashville, Tennessee and also served as a judicial intern in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee prior to joining Bass, Berry & Sims.

Before attending law school, Grunenwald worked in the University of Tennessee Athletics Department as a development assistant in the Tennessee Fund and also served as an intern in the University of Tennessee Athletics Department’s compliance department during law school.

A former student-athlete, he was a four-year baseball letterwinner at Louisiana Tech University, earning Academic All-Western Athletic Conference honors four times from 2005-09 and leading the WAC in stolen bases as a senior.

The Merrill, Wisconsin, native earned a bachelor’s degree, Cum Laude, from Louisiana Tech University (2009), a master’s degree, summa cum laude, from Idaho State University (2011), and a Juris Doctor from the University of Tennessee in 2015.

Grunenwald and his wife, Caroline (Zelent) Grunenwald, Ph.D, have three children – Ella, Cade, and Cora.
