The Mizzou volleyball program has hired Lauren Cost as an assistant coach on March 3, 2026.
A former Big 12 Player of the Year and All-American from Kansas State, Cost brings elite playing experience, leadership, and a passion for athlete development to Columbia.
Cost – formerly Goehring – played her collegiate career at Sullivan's alma mater, K-State, from 2000-04. During her time with the Wildcats, she earned First Team All-America honors and was named the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2003. That same season, she helped lead K-State to its first and only Big 12 Conference title and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.
Cost remains among the top performers in K-State volleyball history, ranking in the top 10 in career kills (1,212), career hitting percentage (.354) and career block assists (380). In recognition of her outstanding career, she was inducted into the Kansas State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Sullivan and the Mizzou volleyball program," Cost said. "The culture, vision and competitive drive being built here are special. I am excited to invest in these student athletes, help them grow as people and compete for championships."
Cost previously served as a varsity volleyball coach at Trinity Catholic. She also founded and directed Victory Volleyball Club in Austin, organizing programming and competition opportunities for athletes ages 10-17. During that time, she also served as the head coach at Austin High School.
Cost graduated from Kansas State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
