REDSHIRT SENIOR (2016-17)

  • Wrestled to a record of 28-8 in final season as an attached wrestler, placing in all six open tournaments he competed in.
  • Became the 26th member of Mizzou’s exclusive 100-win club with a 8-0 major decision quarterfinal win over Michigan State’s Alex Hrispoulos at the Edinboro Open (Feb. 4).
  • Went 5-0 at the Edinboro Open (Feb. 4) to take first, recording a win by major decision and fall at the tournament.
  • Took first at the DuHawk Open (Jan. 28) following a 4-0 performance that featured two wins by technical fall and one by fall.
  • Won the Roger Denker Open (Jan. 22) after a 4-0 tournament which including a win by major decision and win by technical fall.
  • Placed eighth at the Southern Scuffle (Jan. 2) after a 4-2 record.
  • Took fourth at the UNI Open (Dec. 3) following a 4-2 performance.
  • Finished third at the Maryville Brand Kaufman Open (Nov. 12) in first competition of the season, recording a mark of 4-1 at the tournament.

REDSHIRT JUNIOR (2015-16)

  • Posted a 16-14 record while qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season at 133 pounds.
  • Defeated Corey Keener (Central Michigan) in overtime, 5-4, to help Mizzou extend its dual win streak to 37 straight duals (Jan. 17).
  • Was named MAC Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 16 after defeating No. 5 Johhni DiJulius (Ohio State) via fall at 5:59, helping Mizzou knock off then-No. 3 Ohio State (Dec. 12).
  • Earned a 2-1 decision win over No. 17-ranked Josh Alber, helping Mizzou narrowly escape with a 24-19 victory over Northern Iowa (Nov. 28).
  • Began the season on a nine-match winning streak, placing first at the Maryville Brand Kaufman Open (Nov. 14) and second at the Joe Parisi Open (Nov. 21).

REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE (2014-15)

  • Went 31-13 overall in breakout campaign, recording a 133 pound MAC Championship and clinching first trip to NCAA Championships.
  • With only one automatic bid at 133 pounds available, recorded a perfect 3-0 record at 2015 MAC Championships to secure his first career visit to NCAA Championships.
  • His 31 season victories marked a new single season career high, passing his 27 victories during the 2013-14 campaign.
  • After making just one dual start in 2013-14, jumped up to 13 starts this season, finishing with an 8-5 record (3-0 in MAC duals).
  • After beginning the season behind teammate Matt Manley at 133 pounds, earned the last 11 starts for the Tigers lineup.
  • Competed in five tournaments before taking over 133 pound starting spot, placing in 4-of-5 events.
  • Took home 3rd place at 2014 Harold Nichols Cyclone Open, 2nd place at 2014 UCM Open, 3rd place at 2014 Joe Parisi Open and 3rd place at 2014 UNI Open.
  • Signature win of the season came on Jan. 10, 2015, as he defeated No. 3 (125 lbs.) Nahshon Garett (Cornell) by 6-2 decision.
  • Accumulated six different winning streaks of three matches or better throughout the season.
  • Season best winning streak of six matches came between 2014 Cyclone Open & UCM Open.
     
REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2013-14)
  • In his first season as an attached wrestler for the Tigers, Synon competed in six tournaments and earned his first career dual start against Central Michigan.
  • Won six of his eight matches at the Warren Williams/Daktronics Open for a fourth-place finish.
  • Was named the Champion at the UCM Open after winning five straight matches including a 5-0 decision over Connor Cline (Okla. St.) in the finals.
  • Finished in fifth and sixth place at the Joe Parisi Open and Southern Scuffle, respectively. Between the two tournaments, Synon won 10 of his 15 matches.
  • At the Kaufman-Brand Open, won his three matches by either fall or major decisions.
  • Lost in the finals to Dylan Peters of UNI at the UNI Open for a second-place finish.
  • Earned his first career dual start against No. 12 Corey Keener of Central Michigan on Jan. 19.

FRESHMAN (2012-13)
  • Competed with his redshirt on in five tournaments.
  • Picked up his first collegiate win against Oklahoma State's Gunnar Woodburn by major decision, 8-0, at the UCM.
  • Synon went on to take second place at the UCM Open, losing only to Eddie Klimara (Okla. St.) in the finals.
  • Took fifth place at both the Kaufman-Brand and Grand View Opens.
  • Won three of his four matches at the Roger Denker Open to land a second-place finish.
  • Had 19 wins to eight losses throughout the season, with fourteen of those wins coming by major decision or pin.

PRAIRIE RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL (CRYSTAL LAKE, ILL.)
  • His senior year, finished third place at state at 126 pounds.
  • Had a combined record of 87-5 during his junior and senior seasons.
  • Was a state champion in Greco in 2010 and 2011.
  • Finished eighth at Fargo Cadet and Junior Nationals in Freestyle in 2011.
  • Was an Academic All-Conference and Honor Roll Member.

PERSONAL
  • Zach Synon was born on May 4, 1994 to Dan and Michelle Synon in Barrington, Ill.
  • His father graduated from SIU-Carbondale.
  • Has one younger brother, Max.
  • His uncle, Ryan Geist, wrestled at Illinois State.
  • Chose Mizzou over Northwestern and Iowa.
