Dr. Mark A. Adams is a member of the Columbia Orthopaedic Group. He has been an Assistant Team Physician since 1990.
He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Drury College in 1975 while participating on the Drury soccer team. He attended medical school at the University of Missouri and received his degree with honors. His internship and residencies were completed at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was awarded the Outstanding Resident Teacher Award and the Anthony Imbembo Outstanding Teacher Awards while at Johns Hopkins. A fellowship in sports medicine was completed at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Adams has worked with a wide variety of athletic teams during his career. Teams include the University of Missouri Tigers, New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, Sikeston High School, and the United States Women's National Soccer Team. As a member of the U. S. Olympic Sports Medicine Society, he has worked with women's soccer at the 1996 and 2000 Summer Games. Dr. Adams was invited to be a team physician for the 1998 Women's Soccer World Cup. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the American Sports Medicine Institute. Dr. Adams' research has been published a number of times, and he is frequently asked to speak at sports medicine conferences.
Since 1996, Dr. Adams has been on the Board of Directors for the Boone County National Bank. In October 2000 the National Arthritis Foundation named Dr. Adams Humanitarian of the Year. Adams was tapped into the QEBH Honor Society at the University of Missouri in the spring of 2001.
He and his wife, Carole, have four children: Brian, Rob, Caitlin and Spencer.
