Entering her 16th year at Mizzou, Associate Director Kate Lakin is the department contact for gymnastics and swimming & diving, and handles football credentialing. During her time with the Tigers, Lakin has also worked with the women’s basketball, soccer and tennis programs.
While at MU, Lakin coordinated media relations duties for the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Gymnastics Championships in St. Louis, the 2016 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships, the 2014 SEC Tennis Championships, the 2007 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship and the 2007, 2008 and 2012 NCAA Soccer First and Second Rounds.
Prior to her appointment at Mizzou, Lakin served a five-month internship at USA Basketball in Colorado Springs, Colo. With USA Basketball, she traveled to Izmir, Turkey, as press officer for the gold medal winning Women’s World University Games Team. Lakin also interned at USA Basketball in the summer of 2003 and completed an internship at Basketball Ireland in Dublin, Ireland, in the spring of 2004.
A native of Norwalk, Conn., Lakin earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University in 2004. She and her husband, Steven Showers, are the parents of a son, Theodore.
