Trentham, Don

Don Trentham

Don Trentham enters his sixth season as a member of the Mizzou Soccer coaching staff in 2020, serving as the associate head coach. Trentham’s hiring was a homecoming for the O’Fallon, Mo., native and 1999 graduate of Columbia College.

Trentham primarily works with the Tiger defense – a unit that has experienced unprecedented success under his tutelage.

In his first season at Mizzou in 2015, the Tigers set a school record with only 17 goals allowed on the season. The Mizzou backline held opponents to fewer than 10 shots a game, with only 39.2-percent being on goal. The Tigers allowed only 10 goals in 11 SEC games.

Despite playing one of the nation’s toughest schedules in 2018, Mizzou posted five shutouts on the year – three in SEC play. Starting goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey ended her career as one of the best to play in the net for Mizzou – finishing the season on the All-SEC second-team.

In 2017, Mizzou posted three shutouts on the season, and the program won it’s first SEC Tournament game since 2012 with a 3-1 win over Alabama in the first round.
Mizzou reached the NCAA Tournament in 2016, Trentham’s second season on staff. The Tigers posted three shutouts on the season while going 11-7-2 (6-4-1). Midfielder/defender Lauren Seldain was also named second-team All-SEC.

Prior to returning to Mid-Missouri, Trentham spent three seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Colorado. With the Buffaloes, he helped the program post a record of 36-22-7 and two-straight NCAA Tournament berths during that span.

Trentham spent one season as an assistant at Wyoming in 2011, helping the Cowgirls to a 12-5-4 record and the program’s first-ever spot in the Mountain West Conference Tournament championship game.

Trentham enjoyed a nine-year stint (2002-10) as the head coach at Montana State University- Billings, turning around a program that never enjoyed a winning season into a nationally-recognized NCAA Division II program. He finished his career at MSUB as the winningest coach in program history, with a record 85-75-10. In 2010, he was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after guiding MSUB to its first-ever NCAA Tournament bid.

He holds a USSF National Goalkeeping license, a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and a USSF “A” license.

Trentham earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Columbia College in 1999 and a master’s degree in education in health and physical education from East Stroudsburg in 2007. He and his wife, the former Jennifer Lawler, have two children, Landon and Adelyn.
