Picked Mizzou Over: Tulsa, Southern Illinois, Illinois State
2010: Made 33 appearances during the year, scoring nine runs. Made her first collegiate appearance as a pinch runner against Arizona on Feb. 21. Scored her first run at the NFCA Leadoff Classic against Louisiana-Lafayette as a pinch runner. Picked up her first career hit against Missouri S&T, doubling into the left-center field gap. Drove home a run against Iowa State on a sacrifice fly for her first RBI. Her first start came against Central Methodist on April 29. Came in as a pinch hitter against Western Illinois in the second game of the doubleheader and connected for a triple that one-hopped the wall in right field, driving a run on the play. Ortega got the start at DP against Texas at the Big 12 Championship, singling and scoring a run in Mizzou's win.
Erie: A member of the Erie High School softball team, Ashlie Ortega and her teammates were crowned Colorado State Champions three out of her four years. An outstanding second baseman, in 2007 and 2008 Ortega was selected for all-conference honors as well as the Tigers' MVP and team captain. As a senior, Ortega was awarded all-Colorado accolades and notched a school best 1.030 slugging percentage. In addition to playing on her high school team, led by Bob Bledsoe, Ortega played softball for club team, Colorado Stampede, where she was the team leader for batting averages. Among her honors, Ortega was strong academically, achieving a 4.0 grade-point average her senior year. She was also named as the Player of the Year by the Longmont Times Call and Boulder Daily Camera her senior year.
Personal: Ashlie Ortega is the daughter of Jerome and Julie Ortega and was born June 8, 1991, in Brighton Colo. One of three children, Ortega has a sister, Nicole (29) and a brother, Jerome (28). Ortega is undecided on her major.
