Dr. Wright received her bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in psychology from the University of Missouri.
In 2003, after 10 years in private practice and working as adjunct faculty for the Department of Psychological Sciences and the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology, Dr. Wright served as Associate Clinical Professor, assistant clinical director and then director of the MU Assessment and Consultation Clinic (MU ACC), a community based training clinic within the MU College of Education from 2003-2008 where she was active in teaching doctoral students and providing a range of psychological services to adolescents, adults and couples. Dr. Wright was awarded the High Flyer Teaching Award for teaching excellence several years in a row. She served as a motivational interviewing grant consultant related to smoking cessation. Dr. Wright worked closely with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, providing services to student-athletes and consultation to coaching staff and trainers.
From 2008-2013, Dr. Wright served as director of mental health at the MU Student Health Center (MU SHC) overseeing all psychiatric and psychological services provided at the SHC. She served on the Executive Team and was involved in strategic planning. Dr. Wright also served on the campus-wide Eating Disorders Treatment Team, University Sexual Assault Team (USART); and campus-wide Suicide Prevention Task Force.
In September, 2013, Dr. Wright joined the MU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics where she provides psychological services to student-athletes and consultation to departmental staff. She works closely with the internal Integrated Healthcare Team, coaching staff, athletic trainers and the mental performance team.
Dr. Wright has a longstanding interest in professional ethics having served on ethics committees in the Department of Psychological Sciences, the MU Counseling Center and for the Missouri Psychological Association. In addition, she served as an expert witness, providing testimony for the State Committee of Psychologists regarding ethical standards of practice for psychologists in an administrative hearing.
Dr. Wright’s master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation research, which focused on the sequelae of alcoholic family dynamics, was published in APA journals. Her research received national and international media attention including a feature on NPR.
