Senior leader with the experience to play any of the linebacking spots ... Likely to line up most often at the weakside position, where he’ll be challenging for a starting job in the fall.
2016 SEASON
Played in all 12 games for Mizzou, starting six, and totaled a career-best 40 tackles (28 solo) with a tackle for loss and two interceptions … Recorded four tackles in the season opener against West Virginia (9/3)… Tallied career-high tying six tackles during Mizzou’s win over Eastern Michigan (9/10), and secured his first career pick-six, when he blitzed and caught a pass right at the goal line from the EMU quarterback … Tallied five solo tackles in Mizzou’s SEC home opener against Georgia (9/17) ... Posted a pair of tackles against Delaware State (9/24) … Had five tackles (one solo) at LSU (10/1) ... Posted two tackles against Middle Tennessee (10/22) ... Tallied four solo tackles in his sixth start of the season against Kentucky (10/29) … Notched five tackles (four solo) at South Carolina … Snagged second career interception with an eight-yard return during the first quarter against Vanderbilt (11/12) that came deep in MU’s territory and wiped out a potential Vandy score … Tallied four tackles (three solo) against Tennessee (11/19) … Notched two tackles against Arkansas (11/12).
2015 SEASON
Played in 11 games and notched a career-high nine tackles on the season … Had the best performance of his career against Southeast Missouri (Sept. 5), making a career-high six tackles. .
2014 SEASON
Played in 13 games on special teams for the Tigers, tallying one tackle ... Lone tackle came in Mizzou’s 42-13 win at Florida (Oct. 18).
2013 SEASON
Redshirted in his first year with the Tiger program.
HIGH SCHOOL
Was the first in the Tigers’ newest signing class to commit to Mizzou … rated ninth overall in the state’s class of 2013 by ESPN.com, as well as No. 58 in the nation at outside linebacker … rated 13th in the state of Missouri’s class of 2013 by Rivals.com ... first team Class 6 All-State pick by the Missouri Football Coaches Association as a senior in 2012 … named second team Class 6 All-State by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters … recorded 76 tackles and 3.0 sacks through eight games in 2012 for head coach and former Mizzou star safety Ted LePage before missing the remainder of the season due to injury … recorded 112 tackles, 3.0 sacks and two interceptions as a junior in 2011 … phenomenal track and field athlete who excelled in the pole vault for Jefferson City, claiming the 2012 Class 4 state title in the event … part of the school’s runner-up 4x100 meter team in 2012.
PERSONAL
Parents – Eric and Leanne Burkett … named Jefferson City’s 2012 Homecoming King … an academic honor roll member all four years of high school … was an early commit to Mizzou’s class that never really looked anywhere else … impressed by Mizzou’s coaching staff and fan base.
