2018 OUTLOOK
Leader both on and off the field and has been a valuable member of the scout team during his time with the program … Well-respected and liked by all of his teammates and should continue to be a leader for the team during his redshirt senior season ... Will be wearing the prestigious SEC Graduate Patch on his jersey in 2018, after earning his undergraduate degree from Mizzou this past May in Health Science.
2017 SEASON
Veteran who emerged as a leader in the locker room and on the field, spreading tireless work ethic and his positive vibes throughout the team every day ... “Nelly” was rewarded at the end of the year by being named the team’s defensive scout team player of the year, for all of his efforts during practice ... Saw action in eight games - mostly on special teams - and got in for his first career tackle in the 2017 Texas Bowl (12/27) versus Texas.
2016 SEASON
Did not see game action in 2016 … Named the team’s Defensive Scout Player of the Year and the Brick Squad Lifter of the Year.
2015 SEASON
Did not play in 2015.
HIGH SCHOOL
Rushed for nearly 4,000 yards over a two-year span at East St. Louis High… garnered Second Team All-Southwest Conference honors as a senior after totaling 2,200 all-purpose yards and scoring 22 touchdowns… also named Second-Team All-Southwest Conference in 2010… collected 1,700 all-purpose yards and 17 total scores as a junior… also ran track and field and played basketball in high school.
PERSONAL
Parents – Alonzo Sr. and Lisa Nelson…. has one brother, Alonzo Jr., and one sister, Kaetra… majoring in health science at Missouri with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist… cited his relationship with the coaching staff and the strong family atmosphere as reasons for choosing to play at Mizzou.
