2009: As a junior, Jana Hainey notched a career best 1.64 ERA and was a perfect 7-0 on the year. Missouri's left-handed pitcher threw 51.1 innings of action, striking out 46 of the batters she faced. Opening the campaign on Feb. 14 at the Georgia State First Pitch Classic, Hainey threw the first five innings against Evansville and held the Purple Aces scoreless en route to Missouri's first win of the year. Hainey was credited with one solo shutout as she blanked Missouri S&T, April 15, allowing only three hits in seven innings. Entering Missouri's Feb. 25 game against Saint Louis in relief, Hainey was credited with the save, the sixth of her career. Honors: Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
2008: Hainey finished her sophomore campaign with 10 wins and two saves. Missouri's sole left-handed pitcher, Hainey made 10 starts and threw seven complete games combining with senior Jen Bruck on a shutout Feb. 27 against Saint Louis. Throughout the year, Hainey tallied 81 strikeouts including two games where she managed eight strikeouts each (Feb. 9 against Pittsburgh and Feb. 29 against South Dakota State). Hainey suffered a nagging shoulder injury toward the end of the campaign and as a result, saw less time in the circle.
2007: In her first season with the Tiger softball team, Hainey proved not only a reliable relief pitcher for Missouri but also performed well in the starting position. Credited with three saves, including one against No. 8 Baylor, April 28 in Waco, Texas, Hainey struck out 32 batters in 45.1 innings of relief work. Hainey closed her freshman campaign with a 0.26 ERA in Big 12 games, hurling two solo shutouts against border opponents Kansas and Iowa State. In addition, Hainey threw 26.2 innings of regular season Big 12 work, allowing only two runs, one earned, while credited with two saves. Hainey made her first career start in Missouri's season opener, Feb. 9, against Centenary College. Twirling for three innings, Hainey struck out three and held the Ladies scoreless. Hainey's first complete game came April 18, in game two of the Missouri-Kansas doubleheader. In seven innings, Hainey shutout the Jayhawks, struck out six and offered only one walk.
Raymore-Peculiar: A 2006 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School, Hainey did not play softball with the Panthers, but made a name for herself in the club division with the Kansas City Lasers. Led by Head Coach Kurt Staton, Hainey and the Lasers earned the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) 2005 championship title as well as three state titles. As a junior in 2005, Hainey was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher. Playing on the Panthers volleyball team, Hainey, an outside hitter, was a member of the two-time conference championship team, finishing runner-up her junior (2005) and senior (2006) seasons. Hainey was a three-time all-conference honoree for her work on the court, receiving all-county honors as sophomore (2004) and junior (2005) and all-district second team awards her sophomore and junior campaigns. Hainey earned three letters with the Raymore Peculiar volleyball team.
Personal: The daughter of Rex and JoEllen Hainey, Jana was born Dec. 11, 1987 in Kansas City, Mo. Hainey's older sister, Jill (24), was a member of the Avila University softball team and her father played football with Northwest Missouri State University. Hainey is a journalism major and chose Mizzou in part because her mother attended the University.
