Former two-year (2018-19) Mizzou Baseball veteran Paul Gomez joins the Tiger coaching staff as a student manager for the 2020 campaign.
Gomez transferred to Mizzou in 2018 following a two-year stint with Cypress Junior College. He appeared in 86 games during his two seasons with the Chargers, including all 44 games his sophomore season. Gomez touted a .958 fielding percentage with just nine errors at shortstop, while hitting .268 with 42 hits and 19 RBI in his final campaign. He shined in the classroom as well, earning a spot on the Dean’s Honor List every semester at Cypress.
In Gomez's 2019 senior campaign at Mizzou, he broke through by resetting single-season career-highs in games played (50), games started (42), average (.248), hits (37), runs scored (26), doubles (10), triples (one), home runs (4), RBI (24), stolen bases (7) and slugging percentage (.409). Gomez served as a super utility man across the Tiger infield, producing 31 starts at third base, nine at second base and two at shortstop.
Overall for the 2019 season, Gomez recorded eight multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games. He was one of Tigers' top offensive threats in SEC play, ranking T-1st on the team with seven doubles and second with four home runs.
