Hello Mizzou Nation, and welcome to the very first edition of the Burg Blog: a first-hand look into the world of Missouri Basketball. I hope to provide you weekly insights, behind the scenes coverage, and a few personal opinions which should be adopted by you immediately.

First let me introduce myself. My names Ryan Rosburg, but most of you probably know me as the tall white kid with the receding hairline. I'm heading into my junior year at Missouri, and currently a Marketing major. It's crazy to think that I have been at Mizzou longer than anyone on the current roster. It seems like just yesterday Phil Pressey was throwing me ridiculous behind the back passes and having them bounce off my head.

Now, onto the good stuff... Anyone who follows Missouri Basketball is aware of the whirlwind of unexpected events that transpired in recent weeks. I must say, as a player, I was completely blindsided and caught off guard with what happened. With that being said, I have nothing but respect for Coach Haith and everything he's done for me. The man taught me so much on and off the court, and I can only thank him for an amazing two years. I wish him nothing but the best going forward and I know we will stay in touch.

After we got word of the coaching vacancy, I decided to start my own coaching search. I had the pleasure of knowing Coach Anderson when I was in high school, and he quickly became my leading candidate for the job. From what I knew about him, he was just what we needed. The following week consisted of checking twitter constantly trying to figure out who we were getting. A few of us players even got desperate and met with Mike Alden to try to get any inside scoop. The rest is history and we got word that Kim Anderson would be our new coach.

Since Coach Anderson stepped foot on campus, he's been preaching the need to create a new culture of Missouri Basketball. A culture of toughness, togetherness, and most importantly, defense. There is no doubt that the man is passionate about Missouri Basketball and as a player, he's so easy to relate to and believe in because he has literally been in our shoes. I truly believe this is his dream destination, and he's the perfect man for the job. I knew a lot of things were about to change. A few examples:

  1. Every morning at 8 am we have a full team/staff breakfast. This wouldn't be very unique except for the fact that no one is allowed to use their cell phones. This gives us a chance to actually get to know each other and build a trust amongst the players and coaches.
  2. Since coach has been here we've had a handful of workouts, and are yet to learn one offensive play. Workouts are based entirely on defense and playing our butts off.
  3. If you're not 15 minutes early, you're late.
  4. In practice, if there is a loose ball, you better dive after it.

My favorite Coach Anderson moment thus far took place before one of our workouts. Coach was shooting around with some of the guys, and out of nowhere pulled out a Kareem Abdul-Jabbar running sky hook and sunk it smoothly. He then proceeded to say under his breath, "And they said I'm too old to coach." Even though he's old enough to be my Grandpa (it was a joke, don't make me run coach), I'd put money on him in a D1 coaches 1 on 1 tournament.
