COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou baseball took down No. 24 Arkansas, 6-1, in the finale of its three-game Southeastern Conference series versus the Razorbacks on Saturday afternoon at Taylor Stadium.
The Tigers (21-23, 4-17) jumped out to an early lead over the Razorbacks (29-16, 11-10 SEC) with a three-run first inning thanks to a bases-loaded HBP by Mateo Serna, and RBI from Kaden Peer and Donovan Jordan.
Freshman RHP JD Dohrmann made his first start since March 29, returning from an injury that kept him sidelined for nearly a month. After just 17 pitches, Dohrmann (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB) exited the game and turned it over to righty Keyler Gonzalez.
Mizzou added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning after an infield single by Eric Maisonet brought Pierre Seals to the plate and he uncorked his fourth home run of the season (425 ft.) to put the Tigers in front, 5-0. Maisonet followed suit of Seals when he came back to the plate in the bottom of the fourth, going opposite-field for a solo shot (369 ft.) to extend Mizzou's lead to six.
Gonzalez, making his eighth appearance of the season, was strong in relief. He settled in nicely and threw five scoreless frames, allowing just a pair of hits with five strikeouts and no walks, before he handed the ball over to lefty Juan Villarreal to begin the seventh.
Villarreal threw up a pair of zeroes in the seventh and eighth innings before the Razorbacks spoiled what would have been Mizzou's first conference shutout since 2019 by plating a two-out run in the ninth. Freshman RHP Sam Rosand entered and struck out the only Hog he faced on the day to finish the game and give the Tigers the 6-1 SEC victory.
