Mizzou’s distance runners tallied five top-ten program records on the final day of the event.
Mizzou track and field's distance standouts Monica Wanjiku and Drew Rogers rewrote the record books on the final day of the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational Saturday at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse.
Five Tigers set top-ten all-time records in the contest.
TOP TIGERS
Wanjiku, an All-American in cross country in the fall, set a Hearnes Fieldhouse record of 9:13.70 in the 3000m run which also stands as the fourth-best mark ever at Missouri. The freshman was running on the Hearnes track for the first time.
With a strong finishing kick, Rogers, a junior, ran away with first place in the mile run, establishing a personal record of 4:00.33 – the third fastest time in Mizzou track and field history.
RECAP
On the women's side in the mile, senior Allison Newman placed second with a time of 4:48.66.
Three other Tigers were right behind Wanjiku in the 3000m. Junior Suzy Lecoutre finished second with the sixth-best time ever at Mizzou – 9:18.10. Freshmen Mirriam Chepkirui and Kobi Walker were fifth and sixth with respective PR times of 9:24.62 and 9:26.90.
Running in their first indoor meets at Mizzou, Charlotte Cullen and Morgan Yeomans went one-two in the 800m run with respective times of 2:08.90 and 2:08.97.
Junior Ryder James posted a personal best of 4:04.33 to finish fourth in the mile.
Austen Dalquist, a former Arkansas runner competing unattached, set a Hearnes Fieldhouse record in the 3000m run with a scintillating time of 7:45.62 – breaking the previous record set a year ago by nearly 14 seconds. Sophomore Carter Spradling was Mizzou's highest finisher in sixth place with a personal-best time of 8:00.27. His time notched third on the program's all-time list. Freshman Elijah Limo followed in 10th with a result of 8:08.14, standing 10th all-time in the MU records. A total of seven Tigers achieved PRs in the 3000m.
In the field events, Missouri's highest finishers were junior Chase Crawford in the shot put (fourth – 17.11m/56-1.75) and sophomore Marlena Tresnjo in the high jump (T-fifth – 1.77m/5-9.75).
North Dakota State's Zach McGlynn set a Hearnes Center record in the heptathlon – 5,985 points – winning six of the seven events: the long jump, shot put and high jump on Friday, and the 60m hurdles, pole vault and the 1000m run on Saturday.
